UN envoy to Libya, Martin Kobler, has denounced, on Friday, an attack on a military base in the south of the country, controlled by the forces of Marshal Khalifa Haftar, who have caused “a significant number of deaths”.
According to military sources, the 3rd Force, a powerful armed group of the town of Misrata, unofficially loyal to the government of national unity (GNA), conducted Thursday an attack against the air base of Brak al-Shati (south), controlled by Libyan National Army (ANL) self-proclaimed by Marshal Haftar.
“I am outraged by reports of a significant number of deaths, including civilians, and reports of unjustified executions that took place” Kobler said in a statement, without specifying the number of executions of victims.
It was not, immediately, possible to obtain a report of the victims from an independent source. But more than 60 people are reported dead by the Libyan media.
“Disgusted by the attack on Brak al-Shati, and reports on mass executions. The perpetrators must be brought to justice,” wrote British ambassador to Libya Peter Millett on his Twitter account.
