Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra held discussions, in Washington (U.S.A), with two high officials of the American Congress as part of his working visit to the United States, APS reported.
Mr. Lamamra first had discussions at the Congress headquarters with Mr. Ed Royce, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, then he held a meeting with the chairman of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, Republican Bob Corker.
“We have reviewed the bilateral relations and also focused on a number of international issues such as the fight against terrorism,” announced Lamamra after the two talks.
In this regard, the minister said that he referred to “Algeria’s experience led by the President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, which consists of using both self-defense through the means of defense and political and social solutions through national reconciliation and civil concord “.
Discussions also focused on the political reforms carried out by Algeria and the Legislative elections of 4 May.
At the regional level, the minister reiterated the need to reach a political solution in Libya resulting from a dialogue between all the Libyan parties.
“In this aspect, the success of the mediation carried out by Algeria in Mali was welcomed by our interlocutors,” Lamamra said after a series of discussions with US officials, including Secretary of State Rex Tillerson .
The minister noted that the US executive, including Rex Tillerson, appreciated the efforts undertaken by Algeria as an exporter of peace and stability in the region.
