Former Mauritanian President passes away, Friday


Former Mauritanian President, Ely Ould Mohamed Vall, died, on Friday evening, after a sudden heart attack, when he was on vacation in countryside, located in Nouakchott, Mauritanian local media reported.

A military plane has been set up to transport the body of the former President, from the military airport, in the capital Nouakchott, to the city of Azuirat, where his funeral will be held.

Ould Mohamed Vall has assumed Mauritania’s presidency during a transitional period of two years, following his leadership of a military coup, against former President, Maaouya Ould Sidi Ahmed Taya, on August 3, 2005, until the end of 2007, after President, Sidi Mohamed Ould Cheikh Abdallahi, won the presidential elections.
