Algeria will launch its own satellite before the end of this year, which will cover the whole national territory and which will ensure the coverage of 90% of the internet network in Niger and Mali announced Wednesday, in Algiers, the minister of Post and Information and Communication Technologies Houda Imane Feraoun, APS reported.
In a statement to the press at the end of an audience she granted to Niger’s minister of Post, Technologies and Digital economy Sani Maykouchi, the official announced that her sector “is currently examining agreements with African countries to allow them to further benefit from more satellite coverage as well as new information and communication technologies.”
Feraoun further explained that her sector works in close collaboration with the Development Bank for the Republic of Niger for the realization of the trans-Saharan fiber optic ridge and thus, as a lasting solution to inter-connect all the populations of Niger, and will then be extended to other African countries, including Chad.
For his part, Sani Maykouchi said that a great part of Niger’s territory will be covered by internet and could also benefit from new communication technologies with the entry into service of the new satellite launched by Algeria.
