France Embassy in Algiers congratulates ‘Karim Moussaoui’ for his feature film

France Embassy in Algiers has congratulated, Karim Moussaoui, whose feature film “En attendant les Hirondelles” (Waiting for the Swallows) will represent Algeria in official competition in the “Un Certain Regard” section of Cannes 2017 Festival.

A film supported by French Institute in Algeria in the context of its calls for cultural and artistic projects.

After “Les Jours d’Avant” in 2013, the young Algerian director Karim Moussaoui returns with his second feature “En Attendant Les Hirondelles”, presented in official selection at the Cannes Film Festival 2017.

The film tells the story of three different characters: a rich real estate developer who thanks to his recent fortune sees his life changing, a young woman torn between a past love and her present duty, and finally, a neurologist who hesitates to help a woman In need that could affect his life.

The work was selected in a special category entitled “Un Certain Regard” at the 70th Cannes Film Festival, scheduled 17 to 28 May 2017. This is not the first selection of the film in a foreign festival, “En Attendant Les Hirondelles “is already the winner of the CNC prize at the Locarno Swiss Film Festival.

Karim Moussaoui, born in Jijel in 1976, has already made two short films, “Petit Déjeuner” in 2003 and  “Ce Qu’on Doit Faire ”  (What We Should Do) in 2006. In 2009 he began writing the script “En Attendant Les Hirondelles” ( Waiting for Swallows), a film that, according to its director, features characters who” ask questions about their condition “. Moussaoui asserts that “despite the absence of a school of cinema” it is Algeria that pushed him to make it; that it is his way of acting and getting out of the passivity that reigns in our society.

‘En Attendant Les Hirondelles’ has cast Aure Atika, Mohamed Djouhri, Sonia Mekkoui, Chawki Amari and Mehdi Ramdani and will represent Algerian cinema at the Cannes Film Festival next month.
