Algeria has been ranked 118th globally and 4th in North Africa, preceded by Morocco(65th), Egypt(74th) and Tunisia(87), in travel and tourism competitiveness’s  2017 list, released  by World Economic Forum.

Spain is ranked at the top in the list, WEF said in its Global Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2017.

In the global ranking Spain, France and Germany have been ranked at the top three positions, making them the most tourism friendly economies, in addition to traditional strong travel and tourism destinations, namely, Japan (4th), the United Kingdom (5th), the United States (6th), Australia (7th), Italy (8th), Canada (9th) and Switzerland (10th).

In this aspect, India has jumped 12 places to 40th rank.

The 2017 Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report measured each economy’s attractiveness through 14 pillars, including ticket taxes, airport charges, hotel price index, purchasing power parity and fuel price levels, while the natural resources pillar is composed of the number of World Heritage natural sites, total known species, total protected areas, natural tourism digital demand and attractiveness of natural assets.

In this aspect, these results are of significant importance as tourism and its enabling ecosystem are drivers of economic growth, contributing over 10% to global GDP and accounting for 1 in 10 jobs on the planet, WEF noted.

The Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report was first published in 2007 by the World Economic Forum.
