The new Customs Code reinforces the protection of the customs officers in the exercise of their functions, said Thursday in Mostaganem the Director General of Customs, Kadour Bentahar.
“The new Customs Code, recently promulgated, includes new measures and facilities for the benefit of the national economy and the Algerian enterprise and strengthens the protection of customs officers,” he said in a meeting with economic operators as part of his visit to the province.
The Code provides legal means for the Customs administration to enable it to carry out its activities under better conditions, he added.
On the other hand, Kadour Bentahar highlighted that work is underway to set up a new degitalized system to combat bureaucracy, support Algerian companies, protect the national economy, as well as create a forum for partnership between Customs and businesses at the regional and central levels, he said.
Bentahar also said that “the customs administration must be modernized to accompany the Algerian company and review the mechanisms allowing it to reduce the processing time at the ports”, urging, in this regard , vigilance and the adoption of a new control system so as not to constitute an obstacle to the national economy, to establish itself as an effective institution for the protection of economy and public health and contribute to the Border defense in coordination with the security forces.
By inaugurating the new headquarters for the inspection of the customs divisions covering the provinces of Mostaganem and Relizane, the Director-General stressed on the increase in the supervisory rate from 7 to 12 % and the training of customs officers.
