Around $ 175 billion (USD billion) is the amount of economic losses caused by natural disasters and man-made disasters worldwide in 2016, according to the annual SIGMA study published by the Swiss reinsurer Swiss Re, AFP reported on Tuesday.
This amount is twice as large as in 2015 (94 billion), of which 54 billion is to be borne by the insurance, which is 42% more than in 2015, added the same source.
That said, disasters were less deadly, with 15,000 fewer victims in 2016, which was the most costly year in terms of economic damage due to disasters since 2012, says Swiss Re.
Moreover, Catastrophic events, including earthquakes, storms, floods and forest fires in all regions of the world, with nearly 327 disasters, 191 of which are due to nature and 136 due to man.
