Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, will receive the prestigious “Steiger” award on Saturday evening.
The prize is awarded to personalities characterized by their integrity, openness, humanity and tolerance.
Apart from Abbas, Polish-American architect, Daniel Liebeskind, Albert Hammond of Gibraltar, German actress, Tekla Karola Ved, and German cardinal Walter Kasper will also receive the award.
The Palestinian president is to be honored with the prize for hope for peace.
Former winners include German actor, Hardie Krueger, Swedish Queen Sevilla, late Zionist president, Shimon Peres, British actor, Christopher Lee, and US astronaut, Bez Aldern.
Abbas has been on a three-day visit to Germany since Thursday, where he met, Friday, with Chancellor Angela Merkel, who confirmed her commitment to a two-state solution to end the Middle East conflict.
