National Company for Iron and Steel and the Chinese company “San Ustel” have inked a protocol agreement, on Monday, for the completion of the study to develop the Iron Mine of Gar Ajabilat, which will come into service in 2021, with a capacity of more than 21 million tons of iron and steel, RadioAlgerie reported.
The Protocol agreement was inked in the presence of Minister of Industry and Mines, Abdulsalam Bushareb, as well as the Chinese ambassador to Algeria.
The minister said, on the sidelines of the signing of the agreement, that this stage is very important because it will enable us to see whereas the project is beneficial and worthy or not as well as what we have achieved.
The official added that January 2018 will be the completion of the pilot plant.
For his part, Director General of the National Company for Iron and steel, Ahmed bin Abbas, explained that the iron reserves in the region are estimated at 3 billion tons, adding that the study will enable us to determine the appropriate way to exploit this important wealth.
He pointed out that the project includes three phases related to the study, achievement and exploitation, hoping to reach a production of 20 to 40 million tons of iron annually.
The project is expected to offer about 4,800 jobs in 2018.
