The flight EY474 was taken in "violent and sudden turbulence about 45 minutes before arrival at the Soekarno Hatta International airport" of Jakarta Etihad said in a statement.
The Airbus A330-200 landed safely at the Indonesian airport and people injured were taken care of by medical teams on the ground, according to the company.
Of the 31 wounded, "22 were treated at the airport for minor injuries and nine others were transported to a local hospital," the company said.
The turbulence was so strong that they damaged the storage space of the device, according to Etihad.
