The world’s oldest condor dies

Algiers- Hector, the hundred-year-old condor of the cordillera of the Andes, and oldest condor in the world, died Monday in the zoological park of the Experimental Garden of El Hamma, officials of the garden told APS.

  • "The condor did not look well, since last week, and seemed very weak," Abderrezak Zeriat General Director of the experimental garden said. Hector, which has been mentioned in the Guinness world records book, was brought from the Andes by a French patron of arts, Joseph d’Ange, who created in 1900, with his wife, the Algiers’ Zoo. "Many international specialists, namely zoo executives, incliding Vincennes’ one (Paris), Dr Jean Ranjard, recognized the exceptional case of Hector," Dr Faiçal Haffaci, veterinary and former director of the botanic garden of the experimental garden zoo.
