Murder in Dubai: a true German passport was issued to an Israeli


BERLIN - The German passport used by a member of a commando suspected of having murdered a leader of Hamas in Dubai is a legitimate document issued to an Israeli passport holder, Spiegel magazine reported in its Monday edition.

  •    The German passport was issued June 18, 2009, Cologne (west) to a man claiming to be called Michael Bodenheimer, who had presented an Israeli passport issued in late 2008, according to the magazine.
  •    He availed himself of the right to a German passport claiming residence in Cologne and with a marriage certificate of parents whose family had been persecuted by the Nazis.
  •    The Dubai Police has revealed that members of the commando that killed the Palestinian Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh January 19 six of them possess British passports, three Irish passports, plus a French passport and a German passport.
  •    Cologne prosecutor was responsible for an investigation into possible identity theft, according to der Spiegel.
  •    Germany asked Thursday the Israeli charge d'affaires in Berlin to explain the murder, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. On Friday, the German government said an investigation was underway, without giving details.
